dropping off documents, meeting clients at off site locations all this stuff and when someone asked about mileage reimbursement
  • 04
they said it's 'part of the job now' and we should consider it 'getting paid to drive around' What the actual f k?

We're literally not getting ANY extra pay and we're using our own gas and putting wear on our personal vehicles for company

cleverissexy Sounds like they're about to find out that I'm the slowest driver in the world. Dropping off documents at the client location? Waze might say 15 minutes, but I am extremely cautious. Probably take me an hour or so.

LongrideBiker I have an accident attorney in my family that would absolutely love, LOVE, LOVE this. If employed for that employer gets into an accident please DM me and I will send them to you. They recently settled a case in PA where the employer did this exactly then tried to cover it up by saying they never told the employees anything like that.

They settled out of court with the employee recieving $1.3m after attorney fees. The employer even tried to claim bankruptcy and the judge warned that due to the false claims by the employer the judge would potentially allow for the LLC veil to be lifted. That meant that the employee would be able to go after the employers personal assets such as houses and cars.

Canadian_mk11 "No" is a complete sentence. Followed by pointing to the requisite sections of state/federal law regarding commercial vehicle insurance. "Car's in the shop" also works.

kiwimuz You mean you will be using your bosses personal vehicle. There is no way they can force you to use your personal property for work stuff.

JiovanniTheGREAT I don't drive for work and they reimbursed me when I had to drive 70 miles round trip once for a site tour. This is highly illegal and you should at the very least, report them to the labor board.

ejrhonda79 Simple it's not your car. It's your father or mother's and you're borrowing it. Or it's a lease and you checked with the dealer and work related trips are not allowed.

Liviana369 Yea, unless they are paying for my vehicle (payments, insurance, repairs, fuel, etc.), they don't get the benefits of it. I'd start walking//taxi/transiting to work instead

tbodillia My cousin's kid wrecked her car delivering pizzas. Insurance refused to pay. Move on. No way I'd use my personal car for company business.

PA_Archer Mileage without reimbursement is a pay cut. No, I'll sell my car first.
